Russia saying it will load fuel into Iran’s first nuclear power plant on August 21st has escalated our concerns that any new tensions between the Kremlin and the White House may cause Russia to consider exporting more of its uranium to China and India rather than the U.S. since they may be able to get more lucrative offers. The move by the Russians has also raised our eyebrows considering the U.S. had asked them to hold off starting the plant until Iran has stopped enriching uranium. BP PLC said Thursday it had finished pumping cement into its ruptured Macondo well in the Gulf of Mexico, one of the final steps in sealing it for good, and that it was now watching the well to gauge if the procedure was effective.

The end of the cementing operation marks a major breakthrough in the long battle against the oil spill that began in late April, when a rig leased by BP exploded and sank some 40 miles from the Louisiana shore, killing 11 people and unleashing nearly 5 million barrels of crude into the Gulf.” Read more.
